We aren’t sure what Fountainbleau means in French, but it sounds very elegant and like most French things, very pretentious. Pretention is sometimes permissible or in the cases of greatness, sometimes even warranted. However, in the case of the Fountainbleau Diner is Piscataway, no kind of pretention is acceptable. The glamour of this diner more or less ends at its earthly stone exterior. With an interior that is a bit dilapidated and begging for some form of attention or renovation, the Fountainbleau ‘s harsh design was unappealing and disappointing. To match, the pancakes were . Some excitement seemed possible when the milkshake was served in a very retro cup, but the shake itself tasted about as fake as the plastic cup it was served in. We were also looking forward to the “giant” 10 ounce burger. I think it is a fair assumption that when most people order an extra-large burger, they expect a double-pattie burger. In this case that is exactly what was served – 2 burger patties joined at the hip like Siamese twins. This unique cooking decision could be rewarded with points for ingenuity or at least points for being interesting if the burger didn’t taste quite so boring, but alas, it was a lost cause. Perhaps the Fountainbleau Diner needs some tips in Parisian elegance or at least gourmet cooking.
